Journey to Beaumont Hospital

Tomorrow, I’m on my way to the Beaumont Hospital’s Troy campus for participation in their Reiki I program.  After roughly a year’s worth of patience on their waiting list, I’m equally nervous as relived as excited. Beaumont training will qualify as officially my fourth school of instruction regarding this simple yet profound practice.

The purpose of training at Beaumont is two-fold. While I appreciate yet another approach to Reiki, I’m specifically interested in how they’ve adopted Reiki practice into the contemporary medical model. Even as an adjunct, Reiki practice gaining legitimacy in a professional medical setting is a huge step toward Reiki legitimacy in the public sphere. While Beaumont may not be the first of their kind to teach and allow Reiki therapy, they’re definitely maverick as compared to the majority of their local peers.

That said, I want to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity as much as possible with taking notes, exchanging information, etc. Over the years, I’ve learned to adapt my note taking skills to fit and benefit an experiential based discipline such as Reiki practice focusing more on the recording of contemplations and experiences, and less about key words, dates, and hard definitions. Of all the infinite Reiki styles available, spending time experiencing the practice will serve me better than yet another round of indoctrination. To aid in this endeavor, I’m considering a digital recorder in order to fully engage in my experiences and deal with the paper work later…we’ll see how that goes.

Here’s to yet another educational and engaging Reiki learning opportunity.

I am a Reiki practitioner and I am also interested in integrating Reiki in the hospital setting. I am intrigued by this program at Beaumont and would like to know more about it. Here in Boston, we dont have these programs yet and that is something the Boston Integrative Care, a nonprofit organization I have recently created would like to change! Can you then elaborate more about what they teach there and what did you like the most? Also, you say there are other similar programs in the US? Can you tell us some examples? Thanks!

SC, the best resource for your neck of the woods would be Pamela Miles. Between Beaumont’s program and Pamela’s introduction to Reiki seminar, I hope to do my part in bringing a credible Reiki program to the mainstream. As for step and ways to fulfill this goal I’d advise you check: http://reikiinmedicine.org/medical-reiki-webinar/
