As a Reiki practitioner and instructor, I resolve to recognize and contemplate the traditional Reiki precepts throughout my daily practice. For the sake of acknowledgment Usui’s precepts are recounted below in modified format:
- Do not anger
- Do not worry
- Be humble
- Be honest in your work
- Show compassion to yourself and others
In addition to these guidelines, as a professional Reiki practitioner, it is my duty to maintain and adhere to a set of conventions for the sake of honesty, sincerity, and professionalism. As such, my guidelines for professional Reiki practice are outlined below:
- I shall resolve to maintain respect for all energy and/or Reiki practitioners regardless of lineage or affiliation. I shall resolve to refrain from negativity in thought, word, and/or action toward other practitioners regardless of background or affiliation.
- I shall resolve to encourage an environment of peace, awareness, and cooperation through all professional endeavors including but not limited to subject / practitioner, and teacher / student interactions.
- I shall resolve to set appropriate boundaries, encourage all subjects and students to mature at their own pace and to grow individually; I shall resolve to refrain from promoting dependency.
- I shall resolve to request permission to touch before treatment on each client. I shall refrain from any known erogenous contact or communication with students and clients. I shall resolve to explain the Reiki process and associated zones of contact that will be utilized during the session during initial dialogue. I shall maintain respect for a cleint’s wish to modify the technique to the non-contact methods, or disregard certain positions if applicable.
- I shall resolve to maintain mutual respect for every student and client. I shall refrain from engaging in any illegal and or immoral activity with clients and students. I shall resolve refrain from use of known intoxicants (including alcohol) during all professional endeavors.
- I shall resolve to maintain professional boundaries on all clients regardless of personal relationship/affiliation. I shall resolve to promote truth and honesty throughout all professional practices and endeavors.
- I shall refrain from suggestion or insinuation of any medical diagnosis or prognosis. I shall refrain from suggesting or prescribing any subsistence for medical purposes. I shall reinforce the understanding that Reiki is not a substitute for conventional medical or psychological treatment. I shall refrain from interfering with known treatment from a licensed medical professional.
- As a Reiki practitioner, I resolve to utilize recognized Reiki techniques in Reiki session. No psychic readings; No massage or physical/manual manipulation of the subject’s body; No additional practices of any sort within the context of the Reiki session.
- As a Reiki practitioner, I resolve to never claim responsibility for healing; to never promise that Reiki will heal or cure a condition. Reiki may be used as an adjunct to conventional health care as well as alternative treatment.
- I shall resolve to maintain all information related to the client as confidential. I shall resolve to maintain such confidential records secure to the best of my ability. I will obtain written permission from the receiver before releasing such information to a third party.
