Reiki and Self-Practice

As long as there’s a “you” and “me”, your left is my right. We’re in this together.

As a guy whom gratefully appreciates good health, the relative comfort of those surrounding me is of great importance to me. Seeing an animal in pain, or a person on crutches, or even an arm-cast prompts me to want to help. As a Reiki practitioner, I’ve thankfully stumbled upon a method for which this inspiration can be addressed.

However, with Reiki specifically (and basically any intervention in general) there comes a degree of respect and discipline – namely that of consent and honesty; The general rule of thumb being:

No Reiki facilitation for those whom don’t ask – regardless of positive intention or otherwise.

Despite my utmost respect for the choices of others, the altruist in me is still greatly concerned with the the welfare of others. This resolve led me to do a bit of self-inquiry.

I once heard a story about a healer whom was greatly appreciated  in his small town. His story was unique, as he never actually saw the majority of his clients. Upon hearing of a specific case or situation, the healer would first listen intently. Upon fully understanding the situation, he would then sit down and begin to search internally. His approach was that of complete unity;  “If I may find the source of this discomfort within myself, to accept and deal with this discomfort, may we all find benefit.”

Apparently, this approach was a very successful one. Still, regardless of the result, I found this story to be very inspiring. As a Reiki practitioner I already have a responsibility toward self-care and personal development, with daily self-treatment and otherwise.

With this perspective, I’m able to further appreciate how self-treatment very much helps others; it’s all a matter of perspective. Being able to be the best I can be, and lovingly share that with others unconditionally, in a balanced and grounded manner – that’s whats up 🙂
